What To Do If
You’re Involved in
an Accident
Stay Calm & Check for Injuries
Your first priority after any accident is the safety of everyone involved. Check yourself and your passengers for injuries, and if it's safe to do so, check on the other driver and their passengers as well.
Move Vehicles Out of Traffic
Turn on your hazard lights and, if your vehicle is drivable, move it to the side of the road and away from traffic. Always remain at the scene of the accident until the appropriate steps have been taken.
Call the Police, Report the Accident
Call 911 to report the accident and any injuries, then wait for authorities to arrive. When speaking with officers, stick to the facts. Be sure to provide your driver's license and insurance information, note the name and badge number of any officers you speak with, and request a copy of the police report for your records.
Exchange Information & Document the Scene
Exchange driver's license, insurance, and vehicle information with the other driver. If there are witnesses, politely ask for their contact information as well. Take photos of all vehicles involved from multiple angles — documenting the damage and point of impact will help our claims team better understand what happened.
